While thatching will help aerate your lawn, it may not be enough.  If your lawn is a high area of passage with such things as pets running and children playing, your soil will become dense overtime causing the air to compress out.  While raking in the spring and landscaping a garden, pay extra attention to bare patches of lawn needing care, potential pests and rodent holes, mold, or diseases.  Compressed garden soil is unhealthy for the root garden bed plants and lawn while potentially stop new grass from growing.  To help lawn aeration, put on a pair of old baseball cleats and walk throughout your lawn.  If the soil is too compacted for cleats, you can rent an aeration machine from your local hardware store or garden center, which extensively aerates your lawn by removing plugs of soil.

Optionally, you can add a half-inch of quality compost to your lawn both spring and fall with a spreader.  After applying the compost to your lawn, thoroughly water it in.  Compost will feed your soil the vital nutrients for grass and plant growth. If you have a problem with lawn weed or crabgrass, it’s necessary to apply pre-emergent herbicides (also known as Weed and Feed) prior to fertilizing in the spring.  The herbicides get rid of the current weeds and stop future growth.  However, be careful not to apply herbicides near the time you plant grass seeds, as they stop grass from germinating as well as weeds.  There are a few pre-emergent herbicide products on the market that don’t negatively affect grass seeds.

Mowing lawns is one of those most dreaded tasks by homeowners. But the sad part is no matter how much you loathe this task it needs to be done. Depending on the size of your lawn, this chore could take a few hours or one full day to complete. It is therefore such a chore for most homeowners, especially since there are probably a lot of other household chores that you are putting off in order to care for your lawn. To make matters worse, the grass in your yard grows rather quickly. This means that you should be doing garden maintenance work at mowing your lawn at least once a week, or more often than that depending on where you live. That is not a fun idea at all. Not to mention, you must also invest in expensive mowing equipment and diy garden supplies to make the process of lawn mowing quicker and more efficient.

However, here is some good news. If you are still mowing your own lawn, you no longer have to do it yourself. But when should you call in a professional service? Is it really a good investment for you? What are other benefits that you can enjoy? The idea of hiring a professional service to mow lawn in your home might have seemed like an alien concept a few years ago. However, it is becoming a common service these days. In fact, many homeowners in America are opting to tap a professional service to take care of their lawn! This is a beneficial service these days. Most people lead a hectic lifestyle and not everyone just seems to have the time to spend one full day or several hours mowing lawns. To have a healthy lawn for the summer, it’s important to deep and thoroughly rake in the fall removing all thatch, and less in the spring as a little thatch will help keep moisture in the soil for grass growth during warm sunny days.
